Suddenly, I found myself standing in front of the Nutella Cafe in New York City.
Actually, this time, it wasn’t so sudden. I had been planning, plotting my return to the Nutella Cafe.
The last time I had the pleasure of indulging in a Nutella Cafe, I was at the Milan Expo in Italy over the summer of 2015. And maybe just because it’s Italy, or maybe the recipe is different, but Italian Nutella fulfills dreams. Long story short, it was an incredible experience and I’ve been dreaming of a repeat ever since.
Well, when one finds out there is a Nutella Cafe in the great City of New York, what’s one to do but take themselves out on a date.
I believe in the power of taking yourself out on a date. Frankly, it just feels good. Get dressed, go out, and treat yourself. You’re worth it. Self-love as a form of self-care can be a powerful thing.
New York City’s Nutella Cafe opened on University Place in November 2018. It’s the second of its kind in the United States, following the 2017 Chicago cafe.
The shop is full of bright, white light and Nutella logo red. They had a little shop where you could buy merchandise emblazoned with the brand name, including personalized Nutella jars.
But the true star of the show is the Hazelnut spread itself. They devote their whole menu to the various types of decadent creations featuring Nutella. Gelato, waffles, crêpes, and even grilled banana bread are on their “Spread the Happy” menu, a customize-your-own Nutella experience. First, you start with any of these bases. Then, add Nutella, fruits, and other toppings for a truly unique treat.
Nutella, nutella, nutella.
I nabbed a Nutella croissant to bring home and enjoyed it all again about two days later. If you love chocolate croissants – I love chocolate croissants – you’ll LOVE these. The sheer amount of Nutella packed into the pastry is mind-blowing and oh, so good.
